Aloha Airlines Ceases Operation

From Travel Trade Magazine Aloha Airlines Shuts Down; go! Adds Service Mon Mar 31 2008 Aloha Airlines announced that it will be shutting down its Hawaii interisland and trans-Pacific flight operations, beginning tomorrow. Code-share partner United Airlines and other airlines have said they will assist and accommodate Aloha passengers who are affected. Travel agents with clients who do not wish to be re-accommodated by another airline can request a refund on the client's behalf. According to David A. Banmiller, Aloha's president and CEO, the company ran out of time to find a qualified buyer or secure continued financing for the company's passenger business. The airline blames its financial problems on "predatory pricing" by go!, a Mesa Air Group subsidiary, which began interisland operations in 2006. A day after Aloha announced its decision to cease operations, go! announced it will increase the number of flights it operates from an average of 54 flights per day to 94 flights. The new flights will launch the same day that Aloha flights cease. With the new service, go! will provide between 11 and 13 roundtrips per day from Honolulu to Maui, Lihue, Hilo and Kona. All seats are offered at a special price of $49 through April 7. In addition, go! will offer no charge, standby, space available, day of original travel to passengers holding Aloha Airlines paper and electronic tickets through April 3.
