Prague day 2
Prague continues to intrigue and delight! Last night several of us went the the beautiful Municipal Concert Hall, near the hotel, for a string ensemble concert of Mozart, and Vivaldi. The solo violinist was excellent and the accompanying cellist was equally as good. The day dawned rainy today, but didn't put a damper on anyone's spirits. A large group of about 50 people ventured to Terazin to witness the Nazi atrocity at the prison founded in the garrison large and small of Terazin. It was remarkable. Unlike Dachau, which I have also been to, this facility was a work prison that served as a transit point for Jews deported to the concentration camps. The atrocity was just as bad, but there were no whole scale 'experiments' or gassings. About 5000 jews perished at this prison, virtually all from torture, starvation or disease. They were used as workers in the fields for more than 12 hours per day in squalid conditions. The Czech government along with the other countries of the EU, have preserved this facility as a stark remembrance for generations to come. While we were there, several European high school spring trips toured the monument.
We have really enjoyed the dinners in Prague, and have chosen some of the finer restaurants. Cuisine is alive and well in Prague. The restaurant in the hotel is a Patrick Ramsey (Hell's Kitchen) signature restaurant. It was excellent. Last night we dined at a little bistro next door, that was equally as good.
Tomorrow we're off to the ship!
