Prague to the Danube!
We reluctantly left Prague for the German border and the Danube. For our lunch stop we spent about 3 hours in Karlovy Vary - Charles' Spa, named and supposedly discovered by Charles IV. It's a wonderful place often visited by the rich and famous, the is sort of a combination of the Shops at the Forum at Caesar's Palace with a traditional Bavarian village. Famous because of its famous healing mineral hot water springs, supposedly able to cleanse and heal just about everything, its a spectacular combination of street cafés, 4 and five star hotels, and top line shops set in a gorgeous valley. Back on the bus, we were supposed to meet the ship at Nuremburg, but the high water of the Danube was such that the boat (ours and many others) can't get under the bridges. This added about two hours onto the bus ride, but we were quickly on board by 5:00pm. After a safety and security briefing, we had an enjoyable Captain's welcome reception and a wonderful welcome aboard dinner - as good as the excellent cuisine we had in Prague. The bar staff was exceptionally energetic and were quick to make sure your wine or beer glass was never even close to empty!
The morning dawned bright and sunny. Because we were supposed to tour Nuremburg from the ship, Amadeus substituted at bus excursion to that famous city including lunch and time for exploring and enjoying the scenery. We chose to pass, sort of bussed out, preferring to sleep in and walk into our little town where we are parked.
Amadeus carries a number of top flight bicycles on board for use of the passengers, and my headed out on the river bikeway that is available supposedly almost from Amsterdam to Budapest! This is a wonderful addition to the experience!
Tonight we are hopeful that we will sail to Regensburg. The river is supposedly receding, and the Captain says he needs only an inch or two clearance above to sail. The next nautical report is due mid day.
Some picture taking in town this afternoon - perfect for a Sunday!
