Budapest and Beyond!
We sailed into Budapest at about 8:30 in the morning - a beautiful sunny spring morning! Sailing between the two cities separated by the Danube is a wonderful sight in that you can see most of the attractions best from the river. After a leisurely morning enjoying the river, we set off on our city tour. The Pest side is more industrial and we toured the city by bus and visited a memorial square dedicated to several of Hungary's heroic leaders from the 11th century to modern times. We then toured past the parliament building and across the river to the Buda side and Castle Hill, a spectacular mix of ancient and modern civilization. In addition to many shops and cafe style restaurants, there is a spectacular view of both the Buda side hills and the Pest city complex. There is also a spectacular Hilton hotel next to the cathedral, well worth staying in so that you can have additional time to wander around this historic complex later in the day when the crowds would not be quite as dense.
The day finished with the Captain's Farewell Cocktail party and dinner. This provided a wonderful end to a wonderful adventure on the Danube! I'm ready to do it again!
I am writing this from a hotel at the Frankfurt airport!! At 32,000 feet one of our two remaining generators on the plane decided to quit, so we landed. The repair was such that we had to spend the night and will fly back today! Travel is always an interesting adventure!
