Celebrity Solstice Wrap-up
I am sorry that I wasn't able to do the day to day narrative of the Solstice while on the ship - this program is too intense to use on ship's internet system! So............ since I am somewhat caught up, here's my assessment.
Solstice is an exceptionally innovative ship, well worth sailing.
Cabins - larger than average and very comfortable with full sized couches in virtually all categories. My balcony was larger than I expected. The bathrooms were larger and, as a result of a dimmer switch, were able to have a night light feature that was very useful mid - night. My particular cabin attendant was excellent - also the doors open outward into the hallway which makes life a little easier. For cabins that adjoin, there is an outer door that can be closed, so that both rooms are accessible through one door, and the adjoining balcony separators can be opened.
Dining - The food was the typical excellent quality of Celebrity. The buffet service was focused around a variety of food stations with different offerings - they do not use trays, but larger square plates with linen napkins. I ate dinner in the buffet service on two nights due to afternoon shore excursions, and the pasta and sushi stations were excellent. The main dining room is comfortable and typical with good service. This ship has three specialty restaurants, plus a separate dining room - a la' specialty restaurant for the first and second seating of Aquaclass Cabins. The specialty restaurants were in strong demand, and were essentially sold out when arriving on board as a result of advance reservations on the Celebrity website. The restaurants feature a french, asian, and tuscan theme. Our table was able to get wait list reservations the last night, and the filet I had was superb, served with exquisite service - well worth it as always, and, if you like wine, there cellar has more than 2000 bottles.
Ship - wonderful, but different layout that flows very well on all decks. There are some great nooks and cranies, and the individual cabanas, sitting couches etc are always in high demand. The Lawn Club is large, and they are still perfecting the growing of the grass. Because of demand, a little of the grass area will be eliminated for more viewing space for the glass blowing exhibit. There are additional shops than on other ships, and they are well stocked. The bars are very intimate and the Martini Bar was a huge hit - and always packed with showmen bartenders and a refrigerated bar!
All and all - the Solstice Class is a great step forward for Celebrity cruising! I'm ready to go back!
