Oasis of the Seas days 1 - 3!
Well, I am back out on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas to see what it’s like sailing with 5400 passengers (the crew is another 2100!). We arrived at the cruise terminal at about 12:15, and were on the ship in literally minutes. RCCL’s goal is 15 minutes from curb to ship, and the system and 47 check-in kiosks works well. The ship continues to amaze me with the truly extensive number of things to do! We have spent the first two days on the way to St. Thomas at sea, and, like most of the rest of the country, it only started to warm up when we neared Cuba, and the sun hasn’t come out yet! As a result, few of the topside activities and pool areas are in full use, but the two flowriders and the zip line are getting a work out. The biggest difference in this ship as compared to others is the breakfast and lunch dining. In reality, although there are numerous dining options around the ship, the seating capacity is undersized for the number of people. At peak hours, the Windjammer café is jammed with few if any seats available. The solution is to use the Opal Dining room, in which they have set up a buffet, but this seemed a little overwhelmed too. The paradox is that the dinner service is superb – the best I have had on Royal Caribbean. Our wait team is very professional, and our food arrives promptly and well prepared. Tomorrow
