The two port days in St. Thomas and St. Maarten were wonderful! In St. Thomas the ship moors at a special pier of the opposite side of the harbor than the traditional pier. It’s farther from the city, but a taxi ride to shop is only $4.00 or so. We went scuba diving and had a great time as our boat left right from the pier where we tied up. Royal Caribbean has done a wonderful job of planning getting off and back on. There are two main egresses located in conjunction with the forward and aft elevator banks. Cruisers can depart from four different points on the ship, through special lounges built for this purpose. Upon returning, the company has built two security trailers for each port with four security screening points in each trailer. Since you pass through the security before boarding the ship, the process is very efficient and wait times were minimal. Once you clear security, you enter the ship at the access closest to you elevator bank! It was very well thought out. In St. Maarten you moor at the new pier that has been under construction for about a year. It is parallel to the existing pier, so the St. Maarten tour area is the same as what everyone is used to.
